智利北部的 阿他加馬沙漠 （Atacama Desert）是全世界最乾燥的地方，面積有十萬平方公里之大，擁有多種不同的地理景觀。
San Pedro de Atacama座落在阿他加馬沙漠的東北角，是一個很小的小鎮。
＊小鎮的名字落落長，因為San Pedro是很常見的名字，所以特別標明，意思是「在Atacama的San Pedro」。
西班牙文裡“de”就和英文的“of”是同一個意思，看到這種很長的名字，只要知道意思就不會覺得奇怪。
過了智利的關口（點此閱讀 過海關的奇怪小故事）後，我們的巴士向San Pedro前進。
由於手機壞了，我根本不知道自己訂好的青年旅館在哪裡，在小鎮的外圍道路下了巴士之後，我往看起來熱鬧的地方走，正好經過一間旅館，厚著臉皮進去拿了張旅遊地圖，跟著上面的指示找到可以住宿的地方，好像回到六年前第一次自己出國，沒有智慧型手機、靠著紙本地圖旅行的時代。
背著行李在小鎮繞了半小時，還好最後找到一間不錯的青年旅館，環境很好，只是有點貴，一晚的價錢是拉巴斯的兩倍，剛從物價超低的玻利維亞來到智利，我很不習慣。
其實我早就知道智利的物價高，畢竟它是南美的三大國之一，經濟狀況比我之前去的其他國家好很多，當然生活消費也會比較貴，聽說所有背包客來到這裡都會瘦，因為不捨得花錢買食物，嗯，我也有會減重的心理準備了。
這個小鎮出乎意料之外的可愛，和我想像中的智利差別很大。
小鎮的環境
San Pedro de Atacama一點也不大，用雙腳當交通工具剛剛好，還可以順便曬曬好久不見的溫暖太陽。
這裡的建築外觀一致整齊，全是平屋頂的一層樓小房子讓天空很開闊，泥土糊上的牆壁成淺褐色，磚砌的牆則是塗上白色油漆，木製的門和窗皆為雙開式，店家的門上掛著用黑色顏料寫的木板招牌，街道是沒有鋪過的沙土路，車子快速經過時，要注意揚起的塵土。
雖然小鎮上的遊客不少，卻沒有給人擁擠、觀光感，反而感覺簡單樸實，也因為遊客的關係，小小的地方有許多的超市、商店、餐廳，還有我當時最需要的網咖，麻雀雖小，五臟俱全，又有城市的便利，又有鄉下的安靜，十分討人喜歡。
沙漠的氣候
San Pedro小鎮的海拔有2400公尺，相較玻利維亞來說，真是不算高，天氣溫暖許多，當然也和沙漠氣候有關，白天能升到二十度左右，我終於能脫離天天穿的羊駝毛衣，換上單薄的短袖了，不過，沙漠氣候早晚溫差大，一沒有了太陽，就需要穿外套，而且晚上睡覺時甚至要蓋非常厚的羽毛被呢！
雖然之前也去過幾次沙漠，但這還真的是我第一次真的體驗到沙漠氣候溫差大的特性，竟然大到短袖和羽毛被的差別。
附近的好多景點
San Pedro小鎮是個很棒的旅遊中心點，附近有很多地方可以去。這裡的觀光業也算是發展得不錯，小鎮上就有許多旅行社，提供各式的tour給遊客參加。
小鎮的東邊是一個國家公園，高原的地形和自然生態跟玻利維亞南部差不多，有火山、湖泊、鹽沼、野生駱馬和紅鶴。
也可以進到沙漠裡，除了有年輕人必玩的滑沙之外，還有特殊的岩石地質、間歇泉、像以色列死海一樣可以漂浮的鹽湖，另外，最有名也最受歡迎的是觀星，不僅無光害，沙漠中空氣乾燥，天空乾淨無雲，能看到清楚的星空，阿他加馬沙漠又高、又黑、又乾，可以說是天文學家最愛的地方。
我覺得，這裡一定有外星人的基地。因為NASA的學者認為阿他加馬沙漠的地質非常近似於火星的地表，還在此做了很多火星的模擬，如果外星人來到地球，應該是會找個最像家鄉的地方生活。
另一個角度來想，如果我不能去到火星，那就花三百萬分之一的錢來一趟智利的阿他加馬沙漠吧！
手機壞了、筆電也壞了的我來到San Pedro後，好像缺少了什麼，有點無心玩樂，還好在小鎮上找到了網咖，能查些資訊、和家人朋友聯絡。
其實，我真的很喜歡這裡，不僅天氣溫暖，環境可愛又單純，很適合住兩個星期，無奈為情勢所礙，我只待了幾天就離開了。
